MSSC STRUGGLE REPORT (서울, 南朝鮮, 05.08)size>color>

Actually yesterday, May 8, while all the other MSSC members are on "leadership training", we, video activist Hong Kil-dong and the writer of this lines as representative of MSSC, wanted to visit/support the struggling inhabitants of Ilsan/Pung-dong. They fight against the destruction of their residential area.
But, caused of the resistance of gangsters, hired by the city administration to chase away violent the inhabitants, we were not able to enter the area. Instead after we left they shoot behind us with precision slingshots and steel nuts – not really nice! Herecolor> and herecolor> you find one article (in Korean) pictures and two documentaries about the struggle, especially about the activities of the gangsters (second movie, from today).

Another topic.
Like in the Vietnam War South Korean troops are supporting (in the Vietnam War committed) war crimes right now in Iraq. They are supporting US led ongoing aggression there, joining daily crimes against humanity. Just remember this picturescolor>.

One first step to end this could be to withdrawal S. Korean troops out off Iraq (possibly Japan, where the opposition against troop dispatching is very strong, will follow).
But to bring back the troops home, to avert additional dispatch of 3000 combat troops it needs a mass movement/struggle. But until now it seems like many here only trust in a possible “positive” decision of the majority of the National Assambly members (MPs).
Arirang TV reported that the troop dispatch possibly be delayed. There is the plan to send them to (the more “secure”) Irbil (Iraqi Kurdistan) perhaps not until June. But remember, right now there are S. Korean troops in Iraq, relieve the occupation forces committing day-by-day crimes against human rights. An article in yesterday’s English JoongAng Ilbo (yaya, we know…) was headlined with: “More voices (they mean voices of MPs) rising against Iraq dispatch”. But first of all still they are in the minority. Secondly how many Iraqis more the occupiers have to torture, rape and kill until “our” MPs are waking up? Each day elapsing without our massive resistance against the occupation, joined also by S. Korea, prolong the terror against Iraqi civilians caused by the occupiers and the “resistance” there.
So, if we are not taking action against the daily barbarism in Iraq – press conferences, political forums and newspapers articles are not the appropriate means to fight against the daily horror there – we’re guilty too! At present S. Korea just is an ally of rapists, torturers and murders.
And the situation will be much worse in the next days. According to German magazine Der Spiegel, now also the Shiites in the British occupation zone are fighting back after one of their leaders before yesterday called for Jihad, the “holy war”.
The current situation doesn’t help the left wing, not at all. Just the conservatives, or more worse the clerical fascists there (in Iraq) or the fascists in Europe or elsewhere [like herecolor>, for example more and more anti-semitic groups/web sites are using this issue, or herecolor> (a German neo-fascist organization)] can “successful” use it. So it is very easy for people like Shiite leader Al-Sadr (since several weeks he’s in war with the occupiers) to blame the occupiers. “‘What sort of freedom and democracy can we expect from you (Americans) when you take such joy in torturing Iraqi prisoners?'' Al-Sadr said, his shoulders draped with a white coffin shroud symbolizing his readiness for martyrdom”, British daily Guardian wrote yesterday. And in the former more “calm” Basra yesterday Shiite militia started massive attacks against the occupiers after before yesterday, Imam al-Bahadli (before he had some distance to the militant Shiites) delivered his sermon at Basra's al-Hawi mosque, telling worshippers that $350 would be given to anyone who captures a British soldier and offered $150 for killing one. He also said, ``Any Iraqi who takes a female soldiers can keep her as a slave or gift to himself.''
"He displayed documents and photos he claimed showed three Iraqi women being raped at British-run prisons in Iraq and called on supporters to launch jihad, or holy war, against British troops in this southern city.
U.S. officials have expressed fears that Iraqi outrage over widely published photos of Iraqis being stripped and humiliated by their guards at Abu Ghraib could fuel attacks on American or other coalition soldiers.", Guardian continued.
So, our duty should be now to use this situation, to support progressive organizations/groups in Iraq - still oppressed by the occupiers, but also by the (Islamic) fundamentalists – and to make it sure, that all occupation forces leave Iraq as soon as possible.
And, of course, the cases of torture were no “accidents”, not at all, as you can read in today's Washington Postcolor> - "Tough Questioning Okayed". THE SYSTEM HAS NO ERROR, THE SYSTEM IS THE ERROR!color>
