YESTERDAY’S STRUGGLE REPORT (서울 11.05)color>size>

Yesterday 10:35 in the morning about 100 criminal gangsters, hired by the not less criminal Le Meilleur Contruction (LMC) Co., district government officers backed by riot cops raided Cheongjin-dong area in Jongno-gu (district). The people who carried on the restaurant (when you come from Kyobo B/D on the left side on Jong-no, opposite of LG 25 “super” market) were forced to leave. With this criminal act LMC destroyed the basis of existence for some families. But not just that, they robed the activists who defend their homes their office, because it was located in the second floor of the building. The result of the raid you can see here:

Immediately after the raid the activists were informing the public and organized other activists to join the protest in front Jongno-gu Office. About 30 activists, from different areas in Seoul where the residents struggle to keep their homes – of course activists from Pung-dong were also on the spot – demonstrated three hours their anger, but their strong will not to give up the struggle. This criminal act marks a very critical situation of the whole development in Cheongjin-dong. If we are not able to stop that they will tear down the whole area between Kyobo building and Jongmyo Park and on the other side of Jong-no they will destroy every old building between there and Dongdaemun – Eulchi-ro 2ga has many houses, signed as to tear down (herecolor> it is already reported). It means also that hundreds of families will lose their homes and others just their basis of existence.

So this kind of development will bring a future where the poor, the ordinary people are complete excluded. If the construction mafia in collaboration with the district offices and the Seoul’s municipality are able to realize their plans, all the ordinary people drove away to the edge of Seoul or just out of the capital, than Lee Myeong-bak’s dreams became reality – a “developed” city only for rich.

This kind of development we should avoid. But for to avoid this we must concentrated struggle in unity of all the people who will be affected from that process: street vendors, people who defend their homes and jobs and of course all the people who don’t like the idea of a city just for the rich bastards.

So what you can do in the current situation? You can join the daily rallies in front of Jongno-gu Office (every weekday at 2 pm). Make protest calls to Jongno-gu Office (02-731-1123), send fax (02-731-0460) or e-mail (giye@jongno.go.kr)!

Remember this criminal act committed by LMC in collaboration with Jongno-gu office is a violation of human rights!color>
